Overall

I got baptized at 13. At 19 I got disfellowshipped and lost every human connection I built through life within the Kingdom Hall. Although suffering from abandonment issues, sexual and physical abuse from my step-father (an elder), depression, suicidal thoughts, social anxiety, etc I stood strong. I just graduated with my Masters (age 32) and not a family member in sight to help support me through this journey 😢 and now I work as a therapist helping many individuals, including those who suffered from religious oppression. Don’t become a victim of this cult. ✌🏾

Overall

My family and I were loyal JWs for many years until we suffered emotional persecution, shunning, being marked and in the end lost all of our friends and any standing in their community for putting their teachings to the test. The elders failed to have an open mind and considered their own (outdated) material apostate in nature if used against them.

““Really, how foolish it would be to accept an idea as true without checking the facts! That would be like covering our eyes and trying to cross a busy street just because someone tells us to do it.”- Watchtower Nov 1, 2013 pg. 3

Then we (the members) are told the contrary in our study only magazines:
“All of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not. (4) Now is the time for any who may be putting their trust in secular education, material things, or human institutions to adjust their thinking.”- Watchtower November 15, 2013
