Dinah's Fried Chicken Take Home & Dining

Fried chicken was great here. We also tried their fried fish, but better to stick with the chicken. Moist and there was a special seasoning to their batter.
I grew up on buckets of KFC, and this is a similar but better. Tasty mashed potatoes and mac-n-cheese.
The fried chicken is great here but everything else is not so good. We've tried a lot of their sides and no luck.
Fast service and the fried chicken was pretty good. I didn't like my pineapple coleslaw and the mash potato portion was huge but made from powdered potato mix.

Provided by CitysearchGoing here is like stepping back in time. I feel the decor may not have been changed in decades, but it's clean. The fried chicken is why you should come. Everything else is fine, but for a change of pace from the chain chicken places, it's Dinah's all the way.
I like Dinah's chicken. It really doesn't seem greasy, and it tastes great. It's great when we don't have time to cook dinner and I can just stop by there real quick to pick up chicken to go. We never order any side dishes so I can't comment on those, but the chicken is delicious!
Heard some good things about this place so I thought I would bring home one of the family meals. Ten pieces of chicken and two pint size sides. We got mash potatoes with gravy and coleslaw. The chicken was juicy but the flavor was light. Not like KFC or Roscoe's, where there is more flavor in the batter. The coleslaw was good, it has pineapple that adds nice flavor, but there were too many pieces so the texture and tanginess became overwhelming. The mash potatoes were clearly potato flakes, so nothing special there. Gravy was the white kind and good. Overall, when in the mood for fried chicken, there's better places to go.

Provided by CitysearchDinah's is definitely a favorite place of mine. I'm a fried chicken lover, and this place ranks at the top of my list. Not too greasy and good flavor! I'm not a fan of their fried fish, or their gizzards, but their shrimp...wow, if you haven't tried them, you should- they won't dissapoint. Their sides are ok, but it's the other stuff that makes me come back, again and again.

Provided by CitysearchI've been living within 2 miles of this restaurant for the last 20 plus years; never tried them before -- the place never attracted me. End of 2007, Glendale News Press published Glendale?s best businesses, etc. and Dinah's were listed as one of the best. A week later I gave them a try; walked in, put in my order for about 5 people -- spent close to $29.00; took the food home very excited to eat the best. It was a burned, soggy, chicken parts, the fish sticks .. fishy and no great taste; the shrimps OK. One of the chicken boxes had a curly hair inside. It was a disgusting experience. I'll never go their, ever again.
Very very disappointed

Provided by CitysearchIf it's good enough for Little Miss Sunshine it's good enough for me. I saw the bucket on the dinner table in the Movie. The next time I'm in Southern Cal it will be the first on my must eat places! I have eaten more fried chicken than most people on the planet, and consider myself a fried chicken expert

Provided by CitysearchLove this place. I lived in LA for several years before moving to Nor. Calif and I always try to eat here when I can. Its a wonderfully simple place to get something that tastes homemade and delicous. I love the location and the decor. We most often ordere the food for take out - for work or family get togethers. The coleslaw is great and the pineapple potato salad is a refreshing version. Check it out, you wont be disappointed.

Provided by CitysearchThis is some of the best fried chicken in LA. I don't eat in there too often - only due to time; the dining area seems very clean and bright. They have many to-go combos to choose from. For sides, I recommend the mac & cheese and the mashed potatoes. The staff are always friendly as well. There are other locations, but this one's mine!

Provided by CitysearchEven though the two restaurants have different owners, the chicken recipe of the two Dinah's restaurants are the same, and it is good. This Dinah's has a very simple menu, and many of the patrons that I talked to said that they've been coming for years. The chicken is definitely some of the best I've tasted in Southern California. The apple butter for the rolls was delicious as well. I wasn't quite enamored with the pineapple cole slaw or other side dishes, but one cannot go wrong with such great chicken. I'll be coming back to this place for sure.

Provided by CitysearchDinahs Chicken has been around a thousand years, and it is one of those places where you just forget about, that is a huge mistake went there again and had one of the best chicken dinners in year. The chicken is flavorful, the service was fantastic and the prices are good. They just started serving corn on the cob as one of their sides and it was great, a must side though is the pineapple coleslaw wonderful flavor and not too sweet. It really is a must and even though busy tables do turn over fast. No ambience you eat and go. Remember it is a chicken joint you'll have to jog home at least 4 miles. Enjoy.

Provided by CitysearchEverybody I know can testify that Dinah's Chicken is a landmark. They've been around for decades and served not some of the best, but THE BEST fried chicken. You'll know it when you see it from the outside. The place is plain, simple and serious. They are more into the food than decore compared to other so called restaurants of its kind. Most and above all is their fried chicken of course, it's just the way they make it, so damn tasty, sort of like ""baked"" instead of fry! This place will never be duplicated or rivaled. I know alot of people (including myself) will travel far for this. Best of the best!!!

Provided by CitysearchDinah's has these huge oven pancakes that will fill the biggest of appetites! Good potatos, real fresh thick-sliced bacon and some salsa that has both heat and flavor. Food is always very fres. It is one of the best breakfast spots in town!

Provided by CitysearchMy mom recommended this place for lunch once, saying that it was really good15 years ago. So we tried it. The chicken was really tasty, with that said, it was probably grade B chicken. There wasnt a whole lot of meat on the bone, but what was there was really good. Im not sure if its in the chicken coating or what, but it was yummy. It was a bit greasy, but as far as greasy chicken goes, its not any worse than KFC. The fixins were really good. Mashed potatoes and gravy, coleslaw all of it was very yummy. Not for the health conscience.
