Excellent food and people watching at The Ivy

Great food and excellent place to spot Hollywood celebs. It's a bit pricey for what it is but you can always count on a great meal at this LA standard.

impressive atmosphere, but food is ok

If you want to go somewhere that is celebrity struck with paparazzi hanging out, then this is the place.
If you are looking for a place with good food, this is not the best pick. The food here is ok.
The other bad side to it is unless you are a “somebody”, people here are a little snotty to the average customer.

Come here to impress your guest!

The Ivy is a landmark. It is also pricey so a place not many of us can go to regularly. That being said the reputation and ambiance make it the ideal restaurant to take a visitor you want to impress. Women love the large salads and men can enjoy the variety of meat and fish dishes. Obviously, patio seating is preferable!

The best!

Amazing food across the board. Outstanding quality. The service could be more attentive and the hostess should loose her arrogant attitude.
The place is pricey but absolutely worth spending the money.

When in LA drop by

What is Los Angeles without a trip to the IVY.. If you have never been, it's a place to head to lunch so you can see all the celebs who are looking to be seen! The food is very good, especially the Swordfish Taco.. (to die for) . The vibe, exactly what you expect, photographers stationed across the street waiting for a picture - overall a nice place to sit and take in the sights!!

Great Dinner

First trip to The Ivy, and we we very impressed. We had 7pm reservation, got there a little late, and were seated immediately on the patio. The restaurant was full, but did not have a crowded feel. The Service was quick and friendly the ambiance was perfect, sure there is a little street noise, but that is to be expected when you are sitting on a patio next to the street. The food was excellent. I had the swordfish tacos, they have a little kick and were very good. My wife had pasta and raved at the freshness. Overall a very good experience, in a quaint setting.

Good Neighborhood Place

I'd been going to the Ivey well over a decade but had not gone for several years until a recent visit. I understand why this place gets mixed reviews. Admittedly, it's pricey, sometimes noisy, the service is not consistent and you really have to order the right dishes because some are really quite tasty but others not so much.

We were there at around 4:00 so it wasn't real busy. We had the grilled salad, pasta with lobster and corn chowder. Both the food and service were very good. It was a good experience and I'd definitely go back.

Absolutely the best

My family made a reservation and when we got there we could not get a table. When we FInALLY did, we ordered the swordfish tacos, their AMAZING purred fruit drink, grilled veggie salad, and some pasta. This meal was one of the best I have ever had in my whole life!!!! At the end of our simply delectable meals, we ordered the old fashion red velvet cake and let me tell you, it was like NO other. You are crazy not to love this place.

star watching?

My niece visiting LA to look at colleges was desperate to go to The Ivy. SHe'd read in the celebrity mags that Christina Aguilara and Paris Hilton eat here.

We didn't see anyone famous, or at least we didn't see anyone I knew was famous, but the food was excellent and my niece had a good time.

Not impressed

If you want to see a celebrity, or should I say. . . see a celebrity that wants to be seen, then go. This place is very over priced and the food is not good. I got a crab omelette and it had shells in it!

Dear Ivy, Get over yourself

The Ivy used to be a lovely place for lunch. No more. I arrived for my reservation only to be told I had to stand in the traffic pattern or the ficus to wait for my guest. After all the attitude I could handle from the ""hostess"" I was finally seated. A nice salad, a glass of wine, good table service -- and $90 (plus tip and valet) later, I left. Only to learn afterward that my guest had been seated elswhere - equally alone. Dear Ivy, get over yourself.

PLEASE! Don't waste your $!!!!!

The only good thing about this place was it's physical charm. Our entrees were awful! Especially my husband's. He had the lasagna...or should I say, pasta with frozen broccolini and spinach on the side. My first review of a restaurant ever but this place was so bad I felt like I had too. My spinach ravioli was bland and a frozen microwaved pasta dinner would've been better than this. The tuna tartar was delicious; however, they literally give you a tablespoon of the appetizer..that's it! Oh, and I waited almost 30 minutes for my glass of wine. Not worth it... do your research and go somewhere least for out sake:)

Great ambiance, high prices

It's true that? The ambiance at the Ivy is indisputable. This is where the posh have been noshing for years and the place has history...and this is wha you pay for. It is definitely a landmark in Los Angeles and you must go there at least once.

Now, I suggest snacking beforehand as the dinners end up quite pricey, especially if you get wine. The food is decent though.

I would recommend the Ivy for tourists and people in LA for a short time, but for Angelinos, there are lots of better, less expensive places where you can have a nice, intimate meal.

Don't go for the food

The IVY is a fun place to go. There is a happening crowd there. THe food is good but for the price there are better places out there.
