I stayed here over the past 4 days and loved every minute of it. It was beautiful and the service was fantastic. The bed was so comfortable and the linens sublime. We watched the early morning surfers, took walks along the beach. There was delicious coffee early enough for east coast visitors. The restaurant meals were as spectacular as the view. We will definitely return.

Great Bar Service!

Been going there for years, and they have brought in some great employee's. New guy Justin is very charismatic and very good at people skills...girls say he is also easy on the eyes, well I guess I see that.
Go there, you will be treated very well.

that explains it....

best first date citysearch 2005? maybe that's why people keep taking me here.......
So the furniture is comfortable, the food is pretty tasty. It's great as a hotel bar, that being what it is, but first date material? Meh. Keep trying boys, maybe 2 years ago something was different. Maybe I'm just not wowed by hotel bars.

When You Need to Relax and Indulge

This is where I take friends from out of town for a drink or where I come when I'm in the mood to relax. It's a huge lobby/bar. You can pick your pleasure either sitting next to the fireplace, sitting next to a TV or my personal favorite, sitting next to the huge windows with the view of the Santa Monica Bay and the Pier. Wednesday nights, they have live jazz in the lobby which adds to the beautiful setting. The hotel itself is amazingly beautiful and comfortable and it would be a wonderful place to hang out even without the breath taking views. The mixed drinks are amazing! Of course, they will run you $15 for a cocktail - but they are at least a strong pour! I also enjoy the cheese plate. Service is always a bit slow as other reviewers have mentioned, but I've never really minded since it is such a nice place to hang out and talk. I would definitely recommend this spot for anyone looking for a romantic date, a place to catch up with friends, or a relaxing night out. You get plenty of personal space, so I haven't found it the ideal spot for meeting new people though I guess there is probably some intermingling at the actual bar.

Wonderful!

I love it here! It's my bar of choice... It's very classy, and always busy! They have great food, and amazing martinis, I personally love the pomagrante martini. I'd honestly have to say the only con is that the service can be a bit slow on getting drinks, but i hardly ever notice or even care because the ombiance is so wonderful! It's a great place for a first date, and or a great place to end the night!

Great place for a date!

The hotel lobby and bar area is very big and beautiful. Grab a seat by the windows, order a drink and watch the sunset. Love coming here on first dates. Nice environment to talk and get to know someone knew. You can sit by the fireplace, the bar, by the TVs, or on the cozy couches.

Easily one of the best hotel bars in L.A.

Whether you kick back on one of the couches near the fireplace or grab a table near the flat screen TV or the windows, the expansive lobby, sweeping ocean views and live music (it's different all the time -- piano one night, live jazz quartet another) create an atmosphere of subdued celebration and sophistication. Excellent choices of high-end bourbons and scotches. Great place to unwind with a loved one or meet a group of friends, or even enjoy alone. You'll feel like you're away from L.A.

Great Atmosphere to Relax and Chat

Casa Del Mar is like stepping back in the time of an F. Scott Fitzgerald novel. It has a very 20's feel to it. It is open and spacious with lots of sitting areas and even a cozy fireplace or two. It's a great place to relax and chat. The appetizers are good. The staff has always been attentive. Usually there is always some sort of jazz musicians playing and occasionally a singer, which adds to the ambience.

Ehhhh...

The hotel is very beautiful and the view is really nice. The atmosphere is classy and relaxed so it would be a good place for a date. However, the service was bad and the drinks were very expensive - so it felt a little bit stuffy. If you're younger and looking for something more hip - I'd recommend the bar at Shade - a boutique hotel in Manahattan Beach. It's a little bit sexier and not as expensive!

the perfect date place

This place is very sexy. Hands down the best first date place in town. The lighting is romantic, the food is very good, and its hard to resist the drinks. This is the place to find someone you might want to take home to the family. Then again...its also the place to find someone to take up to one of the rooms.

Expense accounts a plus!

I went here with a bunch of girls from work on a Wednesday and when we got to the valet, it looked like there was a line to get in. But once we got out, we saw that it was just paparazzi waiting for someone to arrive. Long story short, Julianne Moore and Carmela from the Sopranos were there that night and made the night even more exciting. The place is beautiful, the food is great and the drinks were perfect. For the six of us, with several appetizers and 4 rounds of drinks, the bill was close to $500 - but okay because it was all expensed! Liked it so much that i'd go even if it wasn't paid for. Check it out!

Beautiful Location

With an upscale, yet relaxed atmosphere this is a nice place to bring a date or an out of town guest for a cocktail. While everything else is pleasant, I do suggest that you avoid the food. Given the surroundings, I expected more. Stick with the drinks and eat somewhere else.
