I go for their happy hour because their

I go for their happy hour because their yellowtail sushi is half off. The food tastes ok.Their service is slow sometimes, so don't go when you are in a hurry.

ra is cool

its a hip, stylish urban oasis. sushi is ok, but they have a nice happy hour

Love the setup!

Great sushi at a decent happy hour. Loved the ambience when I went. Lots of different kinds of seating too. It's just missing the big patio like the one in Old Town Scottsdale.

A chain sushi restaurant worth eating at

The crowd is a little to hip and the music a little too loud, but other than that the sushi is always good. I like happy hour where some food selections and drinks are half price.

So-So Sushi

Two-Stars Says It All: Ra on Mill Avenue is a letdown in comparison to Ra Sushi on Scottsdale Road.

Cons: Service here is much slower than in Scottsdale. Last two times I've dined (although, I'll admit this was during Happy Hour, while busy) in I was stuck in a back table and seemingly forgotten about. Thus, my sushi rolls took twenty minutes to arrive at my table and were beyond room temperature at this point- warm, soft sushi... not too appealing. Never received a single drink refill, either.

Pros: Great Happy Hour Prices! Select rolls, apps, and drinks are half off for both happy hour and reverse happy hour!

Overall: A decent place for sushi (rolls sometimes lack flavor but for the price, can't complain).

Sushi Okay, not great

The ambiance was better than the sushi, and I thought it was kind of pricey. Lunch is impossible, I probably won't go for lunch is just too busy. I will probably just make my order ""To Go"" from now on.

Below Delightful

Its nothing more than your typical "hipster bar" The food is not the greatest but once your drunk who can tell the difference? Its a little over priced for sushi..if you want go out for GOOD sushi I would try some place a little more authentic and less loud.

Service and food Leave a lot to be desired

The service is atrocious. If you must go, do not go during lunch. I waited an 1.5 hours for someone to give me my bill during a lunch outing and getting the attention of my server was near impossible. As for the sushi, the sushi used to be good when the establishment opened several years ago but it soon became a corporate entity and with that the sushi went down hill. If you want good sushi go to Sushi Eye on Elliot. In my opinion, the sushi is the best in the Valley (this is coming from someone who LOVESSSSSSSSSSSS sushi. Sushi Eye isn't a hipster hang out but the food and service are great!

Worst Service!

I went to RA a couple times on the Mill ave and Scottsdale locations. Every time I went I received horrible service! And the food became more, and more gross. I have never received a Togo order that has what or everything that I ordered! Then my company came in for a company lunch outing. We ordered about 8 lunch specials and it took about 2 hours to get our food! I asked to speak to the manager..because the server obviously did not know what she was doing..not to mention her whole but was hanging out the entire time she was serving us! The manager..DID NOT HELP! She simply added that its a restaurant and everyones food takes time. Yes, I am aware that it takes time..but I know for a fact that it does not take 2 hours!! I called the corporate office to have this matter taken care of.

awesome sushi, perfect martinis, great service and i though I was hard to please!

I have been going to RA in Tempe since 1999 ish when I was in college in Tempe. I still love it just as much as I did then. The sushi is not fishy. Perhaps that person ordered something they didn't like, or maybe they don't even like sushi! I love the California Rolls and the sweet eel sauce is the best I have had at any sushi restaurant. I am very picky about my Martinis and they always make them perfect, even though they don't know me from anyone else off the street. I have never had bad service. It is usually packed and sometimes there is a long wait to sit down though because it is such a hot spot for the cool people. If I had any complaints at all, it would be that everyone is so attractive! LOL

Fishy Sushi + Lame Service + Overpriced Bar = Pathetic Place

I've been to ra several times, including a few times during the lunch hour, and several visits on Friday and Saturday Nights. Their Sushi is fishy, their service is nearly pathetic, their bartenders are rude, their bar is overpriced, all adding up to a pretty crummy place. If you're looking for a spot on Friday Night, try the P Cat Lounge in Scottsdale for the atmosphere, and some other place for the lunch hour sushi.....

Love the lobster roll

I loved the food and atmospher, but didnt like the service.
Recieved the wrong drink and we waited for ever for service to order and get our orders.
Wasnt even busy. Plus our waitress had a bad attitude.

I will go back for the food, but next time I will say something if we are miss treated again.

Good ( not great!) sushi, a little bit overpriced, loud music, lots of ASU students

We went for a lunch there and scared by one of the reviewers who said that fish tasted fishy, ordered only a couple of sushi pieces (salmon + tuna), pork goyza and shrimp tempura roll.
Fortunately sushi were pretty good (fresh thin-cut fish, properly sized pieces, rice was not too sticky & not too heavy); unfortunately, the service was pretty slow (we saw only 1 cook at the counter who was giving preference to people sitting at the bar), so we didn't end up ordering more as we couldn't wait 30 minutes more for our order to arrive. After all, it was a lunch time.
Shrimp tempura roll was also good w a unique touch - asparagus instead of avacado, but they gave only 6 small pieces and the last piece was half size (usually it's 8 pieces)

Atmosphere is not romantic at all, loud music is blasting and you will see lots of ASU students.
I would give this place a try but I think it's a little bit overpriced (e.g. around $5 for 2 pieces of tuna), so if you have a good sushi place next to your home, you won't find anything special at RA bar. I would in no time go to Sapporo in Scottsdale (also loud music ;)) instead of this RA bar in Tempe, but if I'm around the area, I will have dinner/lunch. Btw no lunch special at this place, at least none was offered by our cute waitress ;)

All things considered

I lived in Japan for over 5 years and I am an admitted Asian food snob. Only in the US is avacado part of any sashimi or maki roll. However, considering that there is no Coast Line near Tempe, I found both the atmosphere and the sushi at Ra to be quite good. The Seared Ahi Tuna Platter was really good, the Yakisoba was really good considering how far Tempe was from the pacific, and most of their other prepared dishes I've tried in most of my visits were actually a nice combination of Americanized Japanese dishes. They have Asahi Dry Beer, as well as less popular Japanese beers and a great Sake Selelction. Short of going back to Japan, I'll not find much better in any state, let alone a desert one.

something smells fishy

I have tried RA on Mill a couple of times for lunch and on each occasion the sushi has been horrible. The fish smelled and tasted fishy, the tuna was a brownish color instead of the usual red, and the rolls were crafted poorly. If you know sushi, I would not recommend this place. The ambience and service was ok.
